This ingenious story has to do with the nefarious industry of eavesdropping by telegraph. Two clever people, a man and a woman, in hard luck, engage in this and other criminal practices, having always before them the hope of gaining a footing in the decent world, represented in the man's mind by successful improvements in electrical apparatus.
