Esoteric Christianity by English theosophist, freethinker, and social activist Annie Besant was originally published in 1901. The work takes a gnostic and mystical view of early Christianity and seeks to restore this view of its doctrine, despite its suppression by a rigid and authoritarian church hierarchy.
